HALSTEAD Town are on the hunt for a new chairman following Darren Mitchell's decision to step down from the role.

The Thurlow Nunn League outfit are inviting applications for the position, after Mitchell decided to leave the role after six years at the helm.

He will take on the role of treasurer at Rosemary Lane, once a suitable replacement has been found to take over as chairman.

In a statement, Halstead Town FC said: 'Halstead Town Football Club invite applications from interested parties for the position of Club Chairman.

'Our current Chairman (Mr Darren Mitchell) has decided to step down after six successful years at the helm to take on the role of Treasurer once an appropriate replacement has been appointed.

'Under Darren’s leadership the club has progressed both on and off the field and we now look for a suitably experienced person to take over this role and take the club forward.

'Applicants will need to demonstrate an ability to lead a team in achieving agreed aims and objectives, an understanding of the practicalities and challenges of running a non-league club, a love for the game and a desire to succeed.

'All applications will be reviewed by a group of selected committee members, and potential candidates invited for an interview.

'The successful candidate will take the reins of a club with a great tradition and history, strong senior and youth sections and also benefit from large support from the local community.

'They will also inherit the support of a strong and willing team of committee members and volunteers.

'All potential interested parties are asked to submit their application with an attached CV to: htfc.welfare@hotmail.co.uk.

'Alternatively call Mr Ian Collins (Vice-chairman) on 07554 676964 for a more informal discussion.'

Halstead have been told that the start of their Thurlow Nunn League season has been earmarked for September 5.

However, the league have stressed that this date could be moved as they do not intend matches to begin until spectators are allowed back in.

Games in the reserve division and the youth league of the Thurlow Nunn League are set to resume as soon as the premier division and first division programmes restart.

This will mean that provisionally the reserve division will commence on September 5 whilst the youth league will start on September 7.

Halstead are one of six Thurlow Nunn League first division teams to be accepted into this season's FA Cup.

The Humbugs will enter in the extra preliminary round with matches currently scheduled to be played on September 1, with no replays.

The draw will be announced on August 18.
