COLCHESTER United have closed their training ground for the next few days, in line with the latest advice regarding the coronavirus pandemic.

The U’s had been hoping to continue training at their Tiptree base, at Florence Park.

However, those plans changed this week when the latest advice was released by the government and medical specialists.

Chairman Robbie Cowling said in a statement: “All of my businesses, and that includes the football club, are strictly adhering to the advice we are getting from the government and to any instructions we receive from the various governing bodies such as the EFL and the FA.

"I’m sure you all feel the same way as everyone else at the club, who are desperate to get the season back underway and for life to return to normal as soon as possible.

"We are hoping to get some guidance this week as to when the EFL plan to resume football our matches.

"We can’t promise to deliver you football any time soon but we are keen to keep in touch with our community and to provide support to those who are most vulnerable. Please let us know what we can do to help.

"I hope everyone keeps safe and well and I can’t wait to be making more positive statements about the future."
