SOUTHEND United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop will risk wrath of his mum in a bid to get the Shrimpers back on track.

Blues head into Saturday’s clash with Oxford United at Roots Hall having triumphed just once in 17 League games this season.

But shot-stopper Bishop will not be taking it easy on the Shrimpers defenders – despite being told off for his language during the televised FA Cup clash at Dover Athletic.

“I did feel quite bad when my mum had some words with my about my language on the television,” smiled Bishop.

“Thankfully she understood that my emotions get the better of me from time to time.

“But I can assure you nothing is going to change and I’ll still be shouting and screaming.

“I’ll just have to try and tone it down when my mum is watching!”

Bishop has started the last four games between the sticks for Blues.

And the 20-year-old admitted it had been tough going for Sol Campbell’s team prior to last week’s win against AFC Wimbledon in the Leasing.com Trophy.

“The last few games have been tough but they’ve been improving from where we were previously which is definitely a positive,” said Bishop.

“Regardless of that they’ve still been tough but it was good to get the win against Wimbledon.

“It’s a building block for us and hopefully we can carry that on and really make something of it.”

And Bishop cannot wait to get back in action against seventh placed Oxford this weekend.

“We’re going into the game with a good two weeks of hard work behind us,” said the youngster.

“We’re all excited to get back out there after a break and we definitely missed not having a game at the weekend.

“Oxford are a good side, we’re aware of that so we will have to outwork them like we did Wimbledon.”
