Tommy Lambourne bagged a brace as Southend United’s under-18 side recorded an impressive 6-1 victory at Barnet.

Blues had been beaten 8-5 by Northampton Town in their previous outing.

And Lambourne was thrilled to help the Shrimpers bounce back in style.

“I think coming off the last defeat it was good that we turned it around and got the win,” said Lambourne.

“I was happy to get two goals but it was a good team performance.

“There was a lot to improve on, I think we all know that and we’re going to work hard in the week to implement that in the next game.

“We’ve changed a couple of things around in training and it looks like it’s working.

“But we’re going to carry on doing that and keep pushing on.”

Lambourne has now hit the back of the net five times in his last two outings.

And he is keen to keep his good run going.

“I’ve hit a bit of form where what I hit normally goes in and I’m just trying to take that into every game,” said Lambourne.

“I’d like to stay top scorer for the season. There are a couple of boys in and around but that’s healthy.

“We all want to score and it’s good motivation to get a bit of competition going on.

“But we all have to make sure we build on this win now and pick up more good results.”

Blues opened the scoring against the Bees when Ahmet Biler’s inswinging corner was headed home by Demaray Anyadike from six yards out.

Lambourne added his first goal of the game just moments later before the visitors made it 3-0 in the 19th minute with Freddy Eastwood rifling home from 10 yards out.

Barnet got back into the game with a powerful header in the 37th minute before Blues came close to restoring a three-goal cushion with Lambourne heading against the foot of the left post.

However, the Shrimpers were not to be denied for long as they made it 4-1 just before the break with Ergis Shala heading home another cross from Biler.

Lambourne scored his second goal of the game at the start of the second half.

But the goal of the game arrived on 72 minutes when schoolboy substitute Brian Garzon helped the ball into the path of Eastwood on the edge of the penalty area.

And he slammed an unstoppable 25-yard strike into the top right-hand corner of the net to seal an impressive win for Blues.
