CLACTON 44

WRITTLE WANDERERS 36

Essex League division one

MATCHES between these old foes are usually high-scoring affairs and Saturday's game was no exception.

This time last year, the fixture at Vista Road had produced 11 tries and 70 points, while this season saw that figure upped to 14 tries and 80 points.

Playing their first home league fixture of the season, Clacton were the first to score but were overtaken by two converted efforts from the visitors.

The Seasiders then levelled the try-count before converted tries from both sides made the half-time score 17-21.

Two more Writtle tries stretched their lead to 14 points before Clacton realised their strength was getting the ball out to their wings.

Three Clacton scores saw the deficit become a one-point advantage and try number seven, with the added conversion, took the points tally to 39-31.

Still Writtle refused to lie down and their sixth try reduced the gap to just three points.

However, the Seasiders had the last say with their eighth try and a final score of 44-36 to wrap up their first league win of the season.

Their scorers were Dan Kunrunmi (two), Tom Cox, Sam Swift, Aaron Redpath, Shane Jerram, Kieran Ince and Bayley Eden, with Elliott Shuttleworth adding two conversions.

The Clacton man-of-the-match accolade went to Tom Nation.

Clacton are back on the road next Saturday when they travel to Billericay.
