NEW Brightlingsea Regent manager Kem Izzet hopes to bolster his squad with new signings - and maximise his Colchester United connections.

The R's boss was unveiled on Tuesday night and takes charge for the first time when his BetVictor Isthmian League premier division side visit Worthing tomorrow.

The 39-year-old believes he has inherited a talented squad but wants to recruit "a couple" of new faces, with his top priority being attacking players.

"We need to bring a couple in. That's for sure," said the former Colchester captain.

"When I saw the team a couple of weeks ago, they missed some creativity in the final third.

"They lacked end product and that was the main thing I noticed.

"However, as we know, that's the hardest area to recruit.

"Everyone wants forwards and it's hard to find someone who's going to get you 15 to 20 goals.

"It's not going to be easy by any stretch of the imagination but I'm ready for the challenge.

"One downside is that the season's well underway and players are already at other clubs.

"It means we can't bring people in immediately, because there are certain things we have to do in terms of making approaches and so on.

"If I feel we need a player tomorrow, the likelihood of that happening is therefore very slim.

"It makes recruitment difficult but I know I'll get lots of phone calls, now my appointment is out in the open.

"When you work at this level, players tend to ring you and I'm ready for that.

"It'll be interesting to see how it goes in the next week or two.

"As I was only coaching at East Thurrock, it's been quite laidback in the Izzet household.

"But managing is totally different and full-on, because you have to oversee absolutely everything.

"I love that side of it, though. That's the part I've missed."

Izzet has strong connections with Colchester, having made more than 400 appearances for the U's.

And he has already tapped into those contacts, having a conversation with director of performance Jon De Souza.

Two young U's starlets were due to attend last night's training session.

"They're only young so I don't know how ready they'll be," said Izzet.

"One's a wide player and one's a forward and they're both 18.

"I said I'll have a look at them and I'm not promising anything, but we'll see how they train.

"Jon has said they'll be free if we want to use them and you can't lose in that situation.

"It doesn't hurt to look at anyone because you never know what you're going to get.

"There might be a gem out there and that's the kind of player we're looking for.

"We won't know until we look at them."
