COLCHESTER United midfielder Brandon Comley has vowed to “right the wrongs” when his side return to League Two action at Grimsby Town tonight.

The U’s were shell-shocked after losing 2-1 at home to Cambridge United, despite dominating the first half and taking an early lead through Luke Norris.

The visitors equalised early in the second half and then grabbed their winner four minutes from time.

Colchester are still waiting for their first league victory, having drawn one and lost two of their opening three matches.

And Comley, who will up against his former team tonight, is confident of a positive reaction against the Mariners.

“We’ll regroup and go again,” he said.

“It’s another chance to prove ourselves.

“We just need to go back to the drawing board and make sure this doesn’t happen again.

“Once we nail these things down, we’ll push on and go on a run.

“We’ve got a good group and I’m sure we’ll go over the mistakes, talking about what we could have done better.

“Then we’ll be straight back at it, fighting to make sure the same things don’t happen again.

“I’m sure we’ll get it right next time.

“As a team, we have to stay strong and knuckle down.

“Then, come tomorrow night, we have to perform and show people what we can do.

“I’m sure there will be a reaction and the boys are hungry to get back out there, to put this one behind us.

“We want to put right our wrongs from Saturday.”

Comley spent the 2016/17 season at Grimsby, on loan from QPR.

He has good memories of his time at Blundell Park and is looking forward to going back - but says his top priority is helping Colchester kick-start their season and bounce back from Saturday’s disappointment.

“I enjoyed my time there and played a lot of games. It’s a club I’m fond of,” he said.

“But my first thought is going there and getting three points.

“Saturday was really frustrating, especially knowing we should have come away with three points.

“There’s still another notch we can go to from that first-half performance, too.

“I don’t think that’s our roof. We can go past that.

“We controlled the game but have to take our chances.

“I’m sure that when we get into the flow of putting the ball in the back of the net, the goals will keep coming and coming.

“Saturday was so frustrating because we were on top for most of the game but we switched off for little periods and got punished.

“We should have been further ahead at half-time. We should have had a cushion.

“Instead, we came out and weren’t firing at the start of the second half, which gave them an opportunity to get back in the game.

“We should have been more switched on.

“In the second half we still had chances but didn’t hit the ball as cleanly as we’d like.

“It was frustrating and didn’t feel like we clicked, whereas in the first half everything flowed.”
