Colchester United ran out 3-0 winners at Lincoln City, in their final game of the season.

Sammie Szmodics scored twice and Brennan Dickenson also scored, as the U's claimed victory at Sincil Bank.

It helped Colchester claim victory in their final game of the season but unfortunately, it was not enough to clinch them a play-off place after Newport County's 1-1 draw at Morecambe.

Here the Gazette's Colchester United reporter Jonathan Waldron rates the U's players following their impressive win at Lincoln.

ETHAN ROSS 8

U’s keeper commanded his area well to help U’s keep a second successive clean sheet

RYAN JACKSON 9

Was typically solid at right-back and provided the cross for Szmodics’ first goal. Booked

TOM EASTMAN 8

Helped restrict Lincoln’s powerful front duo Akinde and Rhead to few chances throughout

FRANKIE KENT 9

U’s stand-in skipper cleared Andrade’s shot off the line in closing stages and was unflappable at the back

BRENNAN DICKENSON 9

Took his goal superbly well and was impressive at both ends of the pitch after continuing at left-back

SAM SAUNDERS 9

Controlled proceedings in midfield and provided the corner assist for Dickenson’s goal. Booked

TOM LAPSLIE 8

Allowed Lincoln’s little or no time to dictate play and helped stop the hosts from playing

COURTNEY SENIOR 8

Was not afraid to take on the Lincoln defence and played his part in a great team display

SAMMIE SZMODICS 9

U’s man of the match. Scored twice and also hit a post; was outstanding throughout. Booked

FRANK NOUBLE 8

Gave the Lincoln defence plenty to think about both in the central and wide positions

MIKAEL MANDRON 8

Produced a disciplined performance on his return to the team but missed a decent early chance
