Colchester United head coach John McGreal on Luke Prosser injury

COLCHESTER United skipper Luke Prosser is facing a spell on the sidelines after he suffered an ankle injury in their defeat at Bury.

The 29-year-old had to be helped from the pitch at Gigg Lane after suffering the injury just after the hour mark in his side's 2-0 loss.

Prosser was replaced by Tom Eastman and U's head coach John McGreal says losing their captain was a setback.

McGreal said: “It’s a bitter blow and he’s in pain.

“It looks a sore one but we’ll have to wait and see."

It was a bad day at the office for Colchester, after a fifth defeat in six matches left them five points off the League Two play-off places, with four games remaining.

A second-half brace from Dom Telford secured Bury the three points and the U's have now only managed one goal in their last six matches, conceding 12 goals in that time.

“We haven’t dealt with the corner (for Bury’s first goal) and we should be clearing our lines a lot bigger and higher, which we haven’t done," said McGreal.

“For the second one, it was a straight ball down the channel which we should have got our head to which we didn’t.

“It drops to them, we then get back nearly in possession of the ball, it goes to their right wing-back but we don’t stop the cross and the lad gets across our man in the box.

“That’s just doing your job defensively and trying to eliminate mistakes.

“They’re young boys and they’re going to make mistakes but at the minute, it’s very costly for us."
