It's a bold move for a non-league football club to admit it could cut its playing budget next season.

Brightlingsea Regent have done just that, prompting manager Tom Rothery to admit he might walk away as a result.

But Gazette sports reporters Simon Spurgeon and Matt Plummer say the club is right to be honest with its fans, players and investors - even if it does lead to players getting better offers elsewhere.

Simon and Matt talk also talk about...

  • Braintree Town's need for a new stadium,
  • the Bostick North play-off race involving Maldon and Tiptree United, Heybridge Swifts and Coggeshall Town,
  • the introduction of sin bins at non-league level,
  • FC Clacton's narrow defeat to league leaders Histon,
  • Holland FC and Brightlingse Regent reaching cup finals
