MANAGER Mark Ashford is challenging his Witham Town players to try to get something from each of their remaining eight Bostik League division north games this season.

Witham have taken just four points from their last eight league outings and, after a heartbreaking last-gasp defeat at high-flying Aveley last weekend, they will host Felixstowe & Walton United on Saturday looking to get back to winning ways.

While their recent run as seen Town slip back a few places in the table, they are still eight points clear of the drop zone and have a four sides directly above all within four points of them.

So Ashford is looking for his players to finish the campaign strongly and wants them to target points from every game until the end of the season.

"There are no games so far where we haven't been at least competitive," said Ashford.

"I don't think in any game, other than the first half at Bury, there has been a team who have torn us apart and even in that one, we came back so I honestly believed we could turn it around in the second half.

"People should not under-estimate what an achievement that is with a young side like we have.

"Turning up every week like that shows that there us a nucleus of a very good side that will be better for the experiences they have had this year.

"We are eight points clear of the relegation zone and there are six clubs within nine points of us, so things can change very quickly. "But for our own sanity, we want to start winning games again very soon. "We still want to be picking up points for our own ambition and we know what we want from the end of the season.

"The players have been very positive about what they want but they have to back that up with actions.

"The focus is on getting something from every game and making sure we are not looking over our shoulders at the end of the season. "We are eight points clear but that can disappear quickly, so we want to do our job and I'm sure they will do what needs to be done."
