HALSTEAD Templars will host Saffron Walden seconds on Saturday still looking for their first win in the Eastern Counties League division one round-robin competition.

Despite making a fast start against their visitors from Norfolk, a 40-26 defeat by Diss Saracens last weekend left the Templars still winless in the Division One Bowl competition against counterpart teams from the south, west and north divisions.

However, the hosts did claim a bonus point for scoring four tries to keep them off the foot of the Bowl table.

A try by Oli Cuthbert and a score by Brett Ballard, which was converted by Jack Pawsey, got Halstead off to a good start against Diss, but three converted tries gave the visitors the lead at half-time.

Tries by Bradley Cox and a second from Cuthbert, both converted by Pawsey, kept Templars in touch with the visitors, who added a fourth on the hour mark, however, two converted tries in the final ten minutes took the Saracens clear at the end as they stayed top of the Bowl standings.

The Templars will now be looking for their first win in the Bowl competition when they host the only side below them in the table - Saffron Walden - on Saturday.
