BRIGHTLINGSEA Regent assistant boss Pip Boyland hopes his players continue to showcase their talent in this season's FA Trophy.

The R's have been drawn away to Hayes and Yeading United in the third qualifying round and the sides will meet at Beaconsfield Road on November 24.

Regent advanced after a 2-1 victory at home to AFC Hornchurch on Saturday.

“While I obviously want the players to do well for the club, I also want them to do well for themselves," said Boyland, who works alongside first-team boss Tom Rothery.

“The prize money is great and well-deserved but having a run like this is also fantastic from a playing perspective, because it’s a chance for the boys to express themselves and show how good they are; to showcase themselves.

“People will look on and see we’re a very good side, even if we haven’t quite reached the consistency levels we’d like in the league.

“It gives the players some recognition and extra belief."

Hayes and Yeading, who are second in the Bostik League south central division, progressed after a 2-0 victory at Banbury United on Saturday.

Regent, meanwhile, defeated Hornchurch thanks to two goals from Billy Hunt.

“We just need to find a level of consistency because if we perform like that week in, week out we'll do fine in the league," added Boyland.

“That’s our real aim.

“We’ve got quality across the pitch but it’s about performing collectively every week, instead of having one day when we defend well and miss chances or another when we look sharp up front but concede a silly goal.

“We need to bring everything together and work well as a unit, because what happened at the weekend showed what we’re capable of.”
