COLCHESTER United's players and fans have had their say on Twitter following Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Accrington Stanley.

A deflected strike from Dan Barlaser on the half-hour mark condemned the U's to a narrow loss at the Crown Ground and saw them exit the FA Cup at the first hurdle.

Colchester suffered two defensive injuries in the first half at Accrington, with defender Tom Eastman and goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin both forced off inside the opening half hour.

Here's a selection of comments on social media after the U's exited the FA Cup at the first-round stage for the third successive year.

Fans that traveled fantastic thanks for support safe journey home on another day we go 2-0 up or get the pen 2nd half but we keep going another cup game next week and back to league business weekend #keepgoing

Would of liked to seen a decent cup run but on the upside looks like 1st December will be either an Xmas shopping day or a non league football game

Unlucky today @ColU_Official injuries and things not going our way. Still the league and promotion come May is in hand

Injury, miss a load of chances and another injury #colu not the best half hour. Add to that a hugely deflected goal for the home side, really hasn’t been our day! 🙈 #colu

A tough afternoon of football for our @ColU_Official 2 early injuries not helping the task against a resilient Stanley who barely put a foot wrong all game. A deflection decided a game which should have been a draw in fairness.

#colu stat: I could be wrong, but the attendance of 1,267 at The Wham Stadium is the lowest ever attendance to watch the U's in the FA Cup game. Previous lowest was 1,500 vs Yeading in 1994.
