HARRY Morgan wants to put down his footballing roots at Brightlingsea Regent.

Despite being only 21, the midfielder has had a host of clubs, having started out at National League South outfit Chelmsford City.

His CV includes spells with Heybridge Swifts, Maldon and Tiptree, Waltham Forest, Concord Rangers and Canvey Island.

Now, however, he is keen to make Regent his “home”, having signed a one-year deal in mid-May.

“It’s going well so far,” he told the Gazette, ahead of Saturday’s FA Trophy second qualifying round tie at home to AFC Hornchurch.

“I’m really enjoying it and it’s nice to finally feel settled.

“I’ve been in and out elsewhere.

“Not every club feels like the right fit and it can get a bit frustrating, but I’m still young and have plenty of years ahead of me.

“Some players don’t settle and stay put at one club until they’re in their mid-20s.

“I’ve been looking to find a home, so to speak, and I’m hopeful that place is Brightlingsea.

“There’s no reason why not, if I work hard and get my head down.

“I’ve started lots of games since coming here and it’s been great so far.

“Feeling settled makes me happy and that’s only going to bring the best out in me.”

Halstead Gazette:

Morgan believes his experiences elsewhere give him an extra dimension on the pitch.

“It feels like I’ve been around for a while,” said the Chelmsford-based playmaker.

“I’ve played a lot of games, had numerous managers and plenty of team-mates.

“I’ve also experienced lots of different things in football, from fighting for promotion to scrapping to avoid relegation.

“I feel I’ve seen all sides of the game and that’s only going to stand me in good stead going forward.”

Brightlingsea will be hoping to bounce back from a couple of 2-0 defeats – one in the Bostik League premier division against Carshalton Athletic and one at Bowers and Pitsea in the Essex Senior Cup on Tuesday – when they welcome Hornchurch to the Taydal Stadium.

Tom Rothery’s side had been unbeaten in their previous four matches, keeping clean sheets in three of them.

“We just need to find a level of consistency,” said Morgan.

“That’s the biggest thing for us but I’ve got no doubt we’re capable of that, because we’ve got some very talented players here.

“I knew a lot of the boys from playing against them in the past and I was with Billy (Hunt) at Chelmsford.

“There’s no doubt we can do well and we’d love another Trophy win.

“These cup games are so important for the club, in terms of prize money and putting ourselves on the map.

“We’re all looking forward to it and desperate to do well.

"I see it as a must-win game.”
