Halstead Town backed up their recent Thurlow Nunn League division one south success with a good night in the League Challenge Cup against their local rivals.
The Humbugs are leading division one south and they transferred that form into the cup as goals from Marcus Warren and Tom Cook saw them to a 2-0 win against division one north side Cornard United at the Milbank Stadium.
The win propelled Halstead into the second round where they will meet fellow division one south side Holland FC after they enjoyed a first round success against Felixstowe and Walton United Reserves.
Holland earned their passage with a 5-2 victory.
Meanwhile, Essex Senior League action saw Stanway Rovers unable to back up their first league win of the season last week with a second three-point haul.
They were beaten 3-0 on the road at Hoddesdon Town.
