Halstead Town came from behind to keep the pressure on at the top of the Thurlow Nunn League division one south table.

With White Ensign winning 7-0 at Wivenhoe Town, the early pacesetters held on to the top spot, but they are being pressed by Halstead.

The Humbugs stayed level on points with the leaders and in second spot thanks to a 2-1 win against visiting Burnham Ramblers.

Having fallen behind to a Karl Swanborough strike in the first half, Halstead struck back after the break as goals from Kane Gilbert and Ben Morgan earned them a 2-1 win.

There was also joy for Harwich and Parkeston as they built on getting their first win of the season against Fire United last weekend by beating Newbury Forest 3-0.

Fire United lost again, but this time it was at the hands of Little Oakley as the Acorns triumphed 2-0 and that was the scoreline at Braintree Town Reserves as the Young Irons were beaten by visiting Hashtag United.

There was a five-star show on the road from Coggeshall United, though, as they won 5-1 at Benfleet.

There was also division one south action on Friday night and it saw a 3-2 win for Holland FC at Briightlingsea Regent Reserves.

Meanwhile, Brightlingsea’s first team were in action on Saturday, but it wasn’t a happy outing as the R’s were beaten 1-0 in the Bostik League premier division at Merstham.
