JOSH Wells says he is being given a welcome dilemma as Halstead Cricket Club captain at the moment as the Star Stile side's buoyant form continues in the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship.

With his team now sat second in the division one table after their win against Coggeshall extended their run to five straight victories, the Halstead skipper said competition for places in the firsts is given him selection headaches.

He said: "We are in a good place and I've got people knocking on the door pressing for places in the first team, which is a bit of a new experience for me as captain.

"It's a nice thing to have to deal with, though.

"This weekend we have just the one change with Harry Pritchard moving into the seconds and Neal Dakin returning after being unavailable last weekend."

Halstead will look to make it six wins in a row when they head to bottom club Elmstead on Saturday.

Their fifth consecutive victory came with a 12-run success against Coggeshall as Wells' team held their nerve in a tight climax.

Coggeshall had looked on course to chase down Halstead's total of 277, but late wickets got them over the line and Wells admitted that it was the type of result that highlighted the confidence within the club at the moment.

He added:" It was another good performance, although it was a bit nervy at the end and good for us to get a fifth win.

"A few people around the ground commented that it was the sort of game that we may have lost in the past and it showed the determination that is there at the moment.

"They got very close, but three or four quick wickets at the end saw us home.

"The way we are playing was also shown by how deep we batted once again; we were 15 for two and 12 for four and still ground out 270, which was a match-winning score.

"It was a good batting performance and having four people make 50s was a bit of a rarity."
