THE bank holiday mixed pairs events are always fiercely contested at Gosfield Lake Golf Club and this year’s competition had 22 pairs playing for the Barnes Trophy.
The competition was a better ball stableford points format and in ideal golfing conditions over the Lakes course the scores were exceptional.
Second and third place were decided on countback, with Steve and Jane Lake pipping Anne and Keith Barke after both pairs finished with 40 points, but the winners were Ernie Cable and Georgina Penketh - two recent Gosfield captains - with a total of 42 points.
The best front nine was a win for Andy Mathews and Annie Smith with 21 points and the best back nine was won with an impressive 22 points by Steve and Sharon Clark.
Nearest the pin prizes were won by Chris Munt, Sharon Clark and Georgina Penketh.
