Sible Hedingham’s Daisy Partridge returned from Turkey with a bronze medal after helping England to a top-three finish at the World Schools Orienteering Championships.
The 14-year-old Hedingham School pupil spent five days in Turkey adjusting to the high temperatures and testing terrain as she prepared to compete in the year eight and nine girls’ category against youngsters from more than 20 countries from around the world.
But all the effort was worth it as Partridge gained a bronze medal in the team event, despite picking up an injury that hampered her running.
She said: “In my age group, there were five English girls and we were aiming to score as many points as possible to win a team medal.
“In the Middle Distance event, I came ninth, which I was very proud of, but in the Long Distance event, I injured my leg on a boulder and sadly came further down the results.
“However, my girls’ team managed to win the bronze medal, with Spain coming in second and Austria winning gold.”
Partridge has now been selected for the British Talent Squad and will train with them in Scotland during the summer.
