Young Halstead archery ace Imogen Newby hit new heights in becoming the Essex Junior Ladies’ Under-12 champion at the County Indoor Championships in Chelmsford.
It was the final major event of the indoor season for the talented ten-year-old, who is a pupil at Chappel Primary School, and she certainly bowed out in style after a slow start in the World Archery 18 metre FITA competition on a Bray target.
The Braintree Bowmen Archery Club member opened with a score of 47 out of 60 in her first round and knew she had to up her game, but was quickly up to her usual high standard with a 57 from her next six arrows.
Newby maintained that as she finished with a score of 478 out of a possible 600, which not only won her the under-12 county title, but also smashed the Braintree Bowmen club record and set a new personal best.
It was also a score that earned her the overall ladies’ silver medal across all the junior age groups.
