Given the heavy conditions of the soggy fairways, Bill Sharpe’s winning score was incredible as he triumphed in round six of the seniors’ Winter League at the Essex Golf and Country Club.
On a cold and breezy but dry and sunny day, 36 resilient seniors slogged it out for honours, but no-one could get close to Sharpe’s 42 points that earned him a handicap drop from 11 to nine.
Les Hearsey was the best of the rest as the 26-handicapper took second with 36 points and 23-handicapper Mike Gladen took third with 35.
Nearest the pin on the 130 yard fifth was Jim Duignan.
