Halstead Road Runners slipped off the top spot in pool B and into second place after the second round of the 53-12 Cross-Country League series at Abbey Fields in Colchester.

There was a record turnout of more than 350 athletes taking on the three-lap course, with Halstead fielding a team of 29.

However, injuries hit the ladies’ side meaning only four Halstead ladies competed, with Rosie Atkins and Hazel Buist counting as the scorers with very respectable runs for 43rd and 51st respectively.

Bradley Doe, Stewart Ellis, Stuart Prestney and Juan De Gea were the scoring Halstead runners in a competitive men’s field.

Halstead dropped to second overall in Pool B behind Hadleigh Hares and will look to regain top spot on November 30 at Chelmsford’s Hylands Park.
