ARRESTS have been made for conspiracy to commit murder after a house was shot at.

Two men have been arrested in connection with an incident where shots were fired at an address in Chiltern Approach.

The incident took place shortly after 2.05am on Wednesday morning.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "No-one was injured but the person inside the address was left shaken.

"At this stage we believe this was a targeted incident but also a case of mistaken identity.

"Officers carried out a warrants in Elm View Road and Woodside View, Benfleet on Thursday and arrested a 22 year-old man and a 34 year-old man on conspiracy to commit murder.

"They are both currently in custody."

The incident sent shockwaves through the Canvey community, with ward councillor Peter Greig describing the incident as "unheard of" and "terrible".

The maximum sentence for conspiracy to commit murder is life in prison.
