Five mask-wearing thugs forced their way into a Southend home before assaulting a man inside.
Essex Police have launched an investigation into the aggravated burglary on Hamstel Road, which took place in the early hours of this morning.
A man in his 30s inside was assaulted and punched to the head and threatened.
The victim managed to flee the property, and the men left without taking anything.
All five men were described by the victim as black and wearing masks.

It was reported five men, described as black and wearing masks, forced their way into an address in Hastings Rd at around 1.40am today.
A man inside was assaulted but managed to run off.
