A heroic jet skier saved two people who were stuck in chest deep water after being cut off from the beach today.

The alert was raised by an off duty RNLI Southend Lifeboat crew member, who watched the danger unfold whilst working on scaffolding near the seafront at Thorpe Bay.

The crew member quickly called 999 to get help for the pair.

The RNLI Southend Hovercraft was launched to help the pair who were by then chest deep in water and struggling against the incoming tide, after attempting to try and make their own way back.

A heroic jet skier was thankfully able to bring them safely to shore, where they were met by the Southend Coastguard team members who checked to see if they needed any medical attention.

The Southend Hovercraft then did a sweep of the Mulberry area to make sure there were no other casualties stranded at sea

A Southend Coastguard spokesman said: "The two people were spotted by an off duty RNLI Southend Lifeboat crew member who was working up some scaffolding off of Thorpe bay seafront and had a birds-eye view of what was unfolding and identified the danger they were in, so called 999 and asked for the Coastguard.

"The RNLI Southend Hovercraft was then tasked to extract the casualties from the water who, had by then, started to try and make their own way back but were chest deep in water.

"Upon seeing the dangers, a local jet skier then raced out to the two casualties struggling against the incoming tide and was able to pick them both up and bring them safely to shore, where they were met by HM Coastguard Southend team at Westbeach slipway and checked to see if needed any medical attention before being provided with safety advice.

"The Southend Hovercraft then performed a sweep of the Mulberry area to ensure there were no other casualties still stranded 1.5 miles out."
