The number of coronavirus-related deaths in south Essex his risen by 12 according to the latest figures.

New statistics from NHS England show 97 people have now died at Basildon Hospital while 49 patients have died at Southend Hospital.

At last count Basildon Hospital had recorded 86 deaths while Southend Hospital had recorded 48.

It means there has been an increase of one in Southend and of 11 in Basildon.

Elsewhere in Essex, there have now been 100 deaths at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, in Harlow, 61 at Broomfield Hospital, in Chelmsford and 87 at the trust which runs Colchester Hospital.

In total, the deaths of 866 patients who had tested positive for Covid-19, have been recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 8,114.

Patients were aged between 27 and 100 years old. 

Some 56 of the 866 patients had no known underlying health condition.
