THERE will be one change to rubbish collections in Southend over the Easter period.

Anyone whose usual pick up day is tomorrow, Friday, will have their waste and recycling picked up on Saturday.

Otherwise, the recycling and waste collection days will not change following the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

Flat collections will not be affected.

Carole Mulroney, Southend cabinet member for environment and planning, said: “Even if this Easter will not be like any other year as we all continue to stay at home, it is still a special time of year for many, and it can mean there’s more food and treats being eaten and this means more waste and recycling.

“Easter eggs have lots of different packaging so this is a reminder that you can put the cardboard in your blue box or sack and plastic packaging and foil can all be recycled in your pink sack.

"If you have any leftover food to dispose of please make sure it goes into your food waste caddy for composting to avoid unnecessary waste going to landfill. And please don’t put it out until your collection day”
