A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of GBH after a man was assaulted in Southend.

Police and ambulance crews were spotted attending an address in Southchurch Avenue at approximately 12.15pm on Sunday afternoon.

Independent Southend councillor Paul Van Looy saw multiple police cars when he was driving through the road.

He said: “There was at least three police cars, a police van and an ambulance when I drove by.

“There were lots of police wearing protective gear and gloves. I think I spotted at least two of them in the back of an ambulance.

“The ambulance was double parked on the road near the roundabout, traffic was building up.

“The building they were in looked quite run down, I’m not sure what was going on in there.”

Mr Van Looy added: “There weren’t many people stopping to watch what was going on, I think they were more concerned about getting around the ambulance that was parked.

“It was a massive operation, I’m surprised more people weren’t aware it was happening.”

Essex Police confirmed they attended the scene and that a man in his 40s was taken to hospital.

A spokesman said: “We were contacted at 12.15pm on March 10 following reports a man had been assaulted and injured at a property in Southchurch Avenue, Southend

“A man in his 40s was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital for treatment.

“A 42 year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent and is currently in custody.

"An investigation into the incident is underway."
