A MAN is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car near a pub.
The 32-year-old was hit by a Volkswagen Polo near the Walnut Tree in Lifstan Way, Southend, just before 9.20pm on Friday.
He suffered leg and head injuries and is currently in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
A 25-year-old man from Southend was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs, traffic offences, and possession of drugs with intent to supply.
He was released on bail until October 13, pending further enquiries.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward, particularly the occupants of a black Range Rover.
