AN alcoholic who was saved from harming himself by a passer-by who wrestled a knife from his hand has been given another chance to complete his community order.

Mohammed Kader, 51, left his home armed with a knife before calling the police to tell the operator he was going to kill himself.

In February, a court heard how a bystander stepped in.

Kader, of Marram Close, Colchester, who has 21 convictions for 28 offences, admitted possessing a knife in Colchester.

He also admitted breaching a conditional discharge and breaching a four-week suspended prison sentence put in place for being in charge of a vehicle with excess alcohol.

Recorder Simon Mayo QC imposed a community order requiring Kader to complete 100 hours of unpaid work, a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement and gave him a six-month alcohol treatment requirement.

However, Kadar appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court again after breaching this community order.

He admitted to breaching the order by failing to report to probation as instructed.

Kevin Diwell, representing the probation service, told the court Kader has completed 93 and a half hours of unpaid community work and has six and a half hours left of that requirement.

Mr Mayo said: “I recognise in light of what Mr Diwell has told me the very significant extent you have complied to the order.

“But there have been two unacceptable absences.”

Mr Mayo allowed the order to continue and fined Kader £50 for breaching the conditions but warned him he might no be dealt with so leniently again.
