A MAN was taken to hospital after being hit by a car while trying to help a crash victim.

Officers with Essex Police were called to Colchester Road between Earls Colne and Wakes Colne at around 7am this morning (Friday, February 26) following reports of a crash.

A vehicle had left the road near its junction with Boley Road on a bend.

A pedestrian - a man in his 40s - who police describe as a "good Samaritan" attempted to assist at the scene before being hit by an oncoming vehicle.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "The pedestrian, in his 40s, sustained a head injury and was taken to hospital for treatment.

"His injuries are not being treated as life-threatening or life-changing.

"The road was shut whilst we dealt with the incident but reopened at 9am.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage are asked to contact 101, quoting incident 137 of 26 February."
