A FURTHER six Covid-related deaths have been recorded at the trust which runs Colchester Hospital.

Latest information from the NHS shows all six deaths occurred on Sunday.

It brings the total number of deaths due to coronavirus at the East Suffolk and North Essex trust to 768 since the pandemic began.

In the seven days to January 18 there have been 93 deaths recorded at the trust.

A further 842 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital in England. It brings the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 62,295.

The patients were aged between 28 and 104. All except 35, aged between 54 and 94, had known underlying health conditions.

It comes as six further coronavirus-related deaths have occurred in north Essex care homes.

There were three new deaths registered in Colchester care homes up to January 8 and three in Tendring.

A total of 21,621 Covid-19 deaths in care homes in England and Wales had been registered since the start of the pandemic.

The Office for National Statistics figures show more than a quarter of all care home deaths in England and Wales registered in the week ending January 8 involved coronavirus.
