A NUMBER of supermarket staff are self isolating after colleagues confirmed they had tested positive for coronavirus.

Two workers at the Tesco Superstore, in the Hythe, Colchester, are confirmed to have contracted Covid-19.

This is the second Tesco store in Colchester to reveal employees have been asked to self isolate.

Last Wednesday, October 14, Tesco Extra, in Highwoods, confirmed a small number of workers were in isolation after two positive coronavirus tests.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “A small number of colleagues at our Hythe store are self-isolating after two colleagues tested positive for Covid-19.

"The safety of our colleagues, customers and suppliers remains our number one priority and we are following all Government guidance and taking the relevant precautions.

"We have extensive measures across all of our stores to help keep everyone safe, including protective screens at every checkout, social distancing signage and regular cleaning.”

One worker at the Hythe store, aged 20, said a member of staff returned to work after a holiday while members of their family were experiencing symptoms of the virus.

"They later received a positive result and went off work, now staff from different departments are self-isolating," he said.

"I feel customers have a right to know what is going on."
