A GREEN-FINGERED primary school pupil has been crowned the winner of a sunflower growing competition.
Maisy Williams, a Year 4 student at Two Village Primary School, in Ramsey, managed to win the school's first sunflower growing competition after her plant reached an astonishing 12ft 4ins tall.
Children were given a date back in June to plant and then nurture their sunflower seeds to see who would have the tallest sunflower by the end of the summer holiday.
For growing the tallest sunflower Maisy won a book and some spring bulbs.
Headteacher Natasha Bennett said: "We are a lovely rural school serving the villages of Ramsey and Little Oakley and one of our core values is stewardship, taking care of our beautiful world.
"Maisy is clearly a very able gardener of the future, so well done Maisy and all of our caring pupils who took part.
"Next year, we plan to have even more categories with pupils growing their own courgettes, marrows and pumpkins."
The children are now being actively encouraged to harvest their dried out sunflower seeds to plant new flowers next year, or to feed the birds through the cold winter months.
