A NEW football trophy has been unveiled in memory of Braintree pub landlord Scott Gilhooly.

Scott, 44, died from stab wounds following an incident at his pub, the Swiss Bell in Mountbatten Road, in May this year.

He was a supporter of Great Bradfords FC, backing the club’s youth teams for a number of years and sponsoring the men’s team since 2015.

A new trophy to remember Scott will now be presented each year to a club player who has displayed exceptional performances throughout the season.

The Prestigious Scott Gilhooly Award was presented to Harry Mills on Saturday.

Scott's family – son Callum, mum Doreen, brothers Spencer and Ryan, sisters-in-law Claire and Mandy, and nephews Connor and Kieran – were at the presentation.

Ryan said they were "extremely privileged" to attend the event.

Speaking at the presentation, he said: "It’s an honour to be amongst friends – extended family

"Today most of us share one thing in common – cherished memories of our beloved Scott.

"Memories of love, hilarity and I’m sure lots of carnage too!

"We are all blessed to have known him and share those moments with Scott.

"We are honoured to unveil the new annual trophy cup today in Scott’s memory – the Prestigious Scott Gilhooly Award.

"This trophy is precious as a lasting testament to Scott’s legacy – a symbol of aspiration."

  • MUCH LOVED: Scott Gilhooly

Ryan told the Times: "The new annual trophy cup was the idea of Great Bradfords FC, who kindly approached us as a family on how they wished to honour and remember Scott.

"We were both overwhelmed and also humbled by the notion of a new trophy dedicated in Scott’s memory, and also grateful to have the opportunity to personally select and donate a trophy in his honour.

"Scott was a dear and trusted friend of Great Bradfords FC, as he was also a sponsor and supporter.

"The club has a long lasting legacy within the community. Scott would have been two years old when the club was originally founded by husband and wife Melvyn and Maureen Baker in 1978.
