The proposed plans for Southminster Police Station are unsustainable and filled with inconsistencies.
This development would result in high density accommodation on the site and an increase in traffic to Queenborough Road and North Street; neither road is suitable for such an increase.
Proposed parking provisions are incredibly poor; this is without taking into account that a number of spaces would be either impractical or unusable.
This would almost certainly result in on-street parking in the surrounding roads to the detriment of pedestrians, road users and residents.
The plans submitted show two existing houses on the site but the application form states that there are no residential units currently on the site. They are either there or they are not.
The proposals also show a two-bedroom house and a three-bedroom house. In reality these would both have an additional bedroom which has been referred to as a ‘storage/utility room’.
Southminster Police Station is now listed as a local heritage asset. The proposals would significantly alter the style and character of the building and remove from the fabric all that remains as a reminder of the building’s history.
If Maldon District Council entertain and grant permission for this application, serious questions will need to be asked of their proficiency and ethics.
Now is the time to act and object to these ridiculous proposals.
