A MAN was stabbed in an attack police are treating as an attempted murder.

Officers are searching for witnesses to the attack in Barrack Street, Colchester, at 11.30pm on Saturday.

A 33-year-old man was walking from Wimpole Road into Barrack Street, and was attacked in the stretch between Rose Kebab and Noodle Express.

He was taken to hospital with suffered stab wounds and has since been discharged after receiving treatment.

A 22-year-old man from Harlow was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has been bailed until July 27.

A spokesman for Essex Police said they were searching for a black Astra or Mercedes they believe may have been used and they think the attack was targeted.

He said: "We have been carrying out inquiries in the area and reviewing CCTV, and would like to thank witnesses who have spoken to us so far.

"There would have been a number of people in the area at the time of the assault and we are keen to speak to anyone who has yet to come forward.

"From the information we have so far, we believe this was a targeted and isolated incident.

"We’ve been told the suspects may have been using a black Astra or Mercedes, and we are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a car like this in the area at the time."
