A NEW death has been recorded at the trust which runs Colchester Hospital, the first in more than a week.

The death at the East Suffolk and North Essex Trust happened on June 11, but was only recorded this week.

It means there have not been any new coronavirus deaths in more than a week.

The last death at the trust was on Friday, June 19.

It means the death toll at the East Suffolk and North Essex Trust now sits at 347 since the beginning of the pandemic.

A further 37 people who have tested positive for coronavirus have died at hospitals in England.

The patients were aged between 48 and 94 and all but one had a known underlying health condition.

It brings the total number of confirmed deaths in hospitals in England to 28,709.

It comes as researchers hope a coronavirus test that does not require a swab of the throat may be available by the time schools in England reopen in September.

Experts have been talking to officials about how to use testing to understand Covid-19 transmission and hope to have a better test.
