ANOTHER four deaths of patients who had tested positive for coronavirus have been recorded at the trust which runs Colchester Hospital.

The latest figures from NHS England show there were four deaths at the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust confirmed in 24 hours up to yesterday afternoon.

There have now been a total of 324 deaths at the trust from the virus.

Across Essex, another eight deaths have been confirmed in hospitals.

One took place at the Basildon and Thurrock Foundation Trust, four at Mid Essex Hospital Trust and three at Southend University Hospital Trust.

NHS England has confirmed another 183 people have died in hospitals due to the virus.

A spokesman said: "Patients were aged between 43 and 101 years old.

"Two of the 183 patients, aged 81 and 91, had no known underlying health condition. "

A total of 38 of these deaths took place in the east of the country.

The east is the joint second worst affected area in the latest figures, after the north west, where 44 patients died.

The total number of confirmed deaths in hospitals in England now stands at 26,049.
