POLICE have arrested a man in connection with an investigation in to a rape allegation made last week.

The victim, a woman, reported being attacked in broad daylight at the St John's car park in Southway, Colchester at 4.30pm on Friday 1 May.

Police arrested a man, 37, on Friday 8 May, exactly one week after the incident took place.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We arrested a 37-year-old local man on Friday 8 May on suspicion of rape.

"Detectives continue to carry out enquiries and ask anyone who was in the area at the time who has any information to call 101 quoting reference 42/62437/20.

"Alternatively, contact the Crimestoppers charity 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111 or use the anonymous online form at Crimestoppers-uk.org."

The man has since been released on bail until Monday 1 June.
