A LORRY driver has been taken to hospital after his vehicle overturned in a crash on the A120.

Police were called to the incident shortly before 4am on Tuesday after reports of a single car collision involving a lorry on the A120 eastbound, near the Horsley Cross roundabout.

The driver of the lorry, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said two ambulances were sent to the scene.

He added: “One man was transported to Colchester Hospital for further assessment and care.”  The North Essex Roads Policing Unit tweeted a photo of the lorry on Tuesday morning, with the caption: “First job of the day.

"Get this lorry out of the hedge.”

Essex Roads Policing Unit, which covers the north of the county, worked with Highways England to recover the lorry from the ditch.

The eastbound carriageway was closed while the recovery took place and a diversion was put in place for traffic travelling between Harwich and Colchester.

As lockdown restrictions only allow essential travel, there was only a small amount on the main road.
