Celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day are unlikely to go ahead as planned in Maldon later this year.

The town was due to celebrate the day with a special service at the Methodist Church, conducted by a military chaplain on Sunday, August 16.

Maldon Town Council has announced that although the plans were already advanced, in the current climate the events are now “unlikely to go ahead in the planned format”.

The council said a decision will be made nearer the time depending on the circumstances and added that it should all be “very fitting and will ensure that Maldon once again marks the victories that brought world conflict to an end”.

All town council meetings have been suspended until further notice and access to the council’s offices is also suspended.
