MORE events over the Easter break and beyond have been cancelled in light of the coronavirus outbreak.

The Maldon Carnival Association announced its popular Easter egg hunt, which was scheduled for April 5, will not go ahead along with its bingo nights on April 1 and 15 as well as May 6.

Spokesman Rob Slight said: “It’s with great regret that after consultation with Maldon District Council and following the Government guidelines about social isolation, we are now cancelling all carnival events until at least May.

“We are monitoring the situation on a regular basis but the safety of our customers and volunteers always comes first.

“We are still confident the carnival week and carnival day will be going ahead and hope to see everyone there.”

Stow Maries Aerodrome said it is taking the outbreak “extremely seriously”, cancelling all events between now and July.

Aerodrome boss Ian Flint said: “Our number one priority in this matter is the safety and wellbeing of visitors, volunteers and staff.

“To reflect this, the trust has made the difficult decision to close the site to the public with immediate effect.

“We will be reviewing this situation on a monthly basis, paying close attention to the advice of HM Government and Public Health England.

“This is a precautionary step that we feel is justified and appropriate, however unwelcome it is to us.

“We are liaising with VE Day 75 regarding a rescheduled date and will be in touch very soon.”

The aerodrome’s Wings and Wheel event on May 31 has been moved to September 6 and they have cancelled the Armed Forces event on June 27.

The Maldon Society has cancelled talks scheduled to take place on April 2, May 7 and June 4.

Maldon Museum was set to reopen on Good Friday but has now reconsidered this date and will now reopen later this year.

A spokesman said: “Unfortunately due to Covid-19, we have decided not to reopen due to health concerns of our volunteers and just as importantly those of our visitors.

“We will hopefully reopen later in the summer - at least the sun will be out!”
