A BREWING company has rebranded one of its drinks in honour of a charity’s great work.

Scotty’s Little Soldiers is this year’s chosen charity at Wibblers Brewery for its fundraising work to support bereaved British Forces children and young people.

The Southminster-based brewer will rebrand one of its most popular ales – Dengie Gold – with the Scotty’s logo, colours and name, calling it Scotty’s Gold.

A donation of £5 per casket will be given to the charity.

It will also have charity pots at any events it hosts, including beer festivals, weddings and on the bar in its taproom and kitchen.

Brewery owner Abby Wilcox first heard about charity founder Nikki Scott’s incredible work on an interview on BBC One on Remembrance Sunday.

Abby said: “When I saw Nikki on TV, I immediately thought that Scotty’s Little Soldiers and the work it does was amazing.

“I spoke to my husband and decided I wanted to make it our charity of the year.

“We have many ex-military customers and I have a seven-year old child, so seeing Nikki talk about the children really pulled on my heartstrings at the right time and it felt relevant to me.

“We can see on our tracking system how much we will have raised for Scotty’s which is exciting.

“We are trying to have fun with it too – we want our pub to be a friendly, family environment so we have a ‘swear jar’ on the bar and when somebody swears, it’s one pound in the jar.”

Founded by war widow Nikki in 2010, the charity supported 410 bereaved British military children and young people across the country last year.

The charity was set up in memory of Nikki’s husband and father to her two children, Corporal Lee Scott, after he was killed in Afghanistan in 2009.

Nikki said: “We’re really grateful that Abby responded so positively when finding out about our work and the support we provide to bereaved military children and young people.

“It sounds like the brewery will be doing some really fun fundraising activity and to have a beer dedicated to us is pretty cool!”
