A HIGH achieving nursery has been rated outstanding across the board after inspectors found staff created “a buzz of excitement” among its “extremely articulate” pupils.

Government watchdog Ofsted paid a visit to Busy Bees Day Nursery, in Colchester, failing to find a single fault in the standard of childcare and education on offer.

Across four categories, including quality of education, behaviour, personal development and leadership, staff were graded as outstanding.

Inspector Lynn Hughes found the team of 26 childcare staff kept children engaged with exciting science experiments, toys and “lively” discussions of different topics.

The older children at the nursery, which caters to youngsters aged between two and four, are encouraged to form a pre-school committee to make their own decisions.

Ms Hughes said: “Children have a very active voice within the nursery.

“They often vote, for example when choosing an animal or two to adopt at the zoo.”

The inspector also found staff knew each child and their needs “extremely well”, a factor recognised by grateful parents.

Ms Hughes said: “They use their expert knowledge of each child’s likes, dislikes and family life to plan exciting, purposeful learning that is tailored to each child.

“Staff frequently assess children’s progress and actively involve parents in their learning.”

She added: “Parents cannot speak highly enough of the nursery staff, managers and support staff.

“Some comment their children are exceeding their expectations and are more than ready for school.

“Others comment on the friendly yet professional staff and managers.

“They talk about staff really knowing their children and how important this is to them.”

Nursery manager Kate Whitnell voiced her pride at the findings in the Ofsted inspector’s report.

The nursery maintained consistency since its previous inspection in 2013, when Ofsted inspectors also found it to be outstanding.

“I am extremely proud of our outstanding outcome,” said Ms Whitnell

“It’s wonderful to be recognised for the exceptional care we provide our children and how we go above and beyond in giving them the very best start in life.”
