A bar in Colchester has announced it will open for the final time this weekend before closing until the coronavirus pandemic is under control.

Rubix, in Crouch Street, will shut on after closing on Saturday night.

Owner Jeremy Durrant said he felt it was "important to all stand together as one to defeat this horrible virus."

In a post on Facebook he said: "I’ve had a couple of restless nights and been giving our position here at Rubix even more thought and have come to a really difficult decision.

"I’ve decided that what ever happens I will be making THIS weekend our final weekend trading until this horrible virus is under control.

"Although we have put many stringent procedures in place to keep our customers and staff safe I don’t believe it goes far enough as things start to deteriorate further in Colchester.

"Furthermore I feel it is important to all stand together as one to defeat this horrible virus and bring normality back for us & our families as quickly as possible.

"To clarify we will be opening tonight and Saturday night from 9pm at Rubix giving our lovely customers and staff chance to party with us one more time.

"We will then close. However we ask you once again to follow our safety guidelines as laid out in our video statement below before considering popping in.

"If you are in any of the high risk categories or feel in anyway under the weather please don’t join us.

"If we don’t see you this weekend I would like to say on behalf of Charlene, Ross, myself and the Rubix Team that we wish you and your family good health and we promise the retro revolution WILL Return!"
