A thug threatened to shoot a man during an attempted robbery - although police believe he targeted the the wrong address.

Police were called around 1pm on Thursday 6 February with reports that a man had forced his way into an address on Wenham Drive, Westcliff.

The man got what was described as a gun from his bag and threatened to shoot the occupant if he did not hand over cash and other items.

He was described as being around 6ft tall and was wearing a black puffer jacket, black trousers, black socks and black and white Adidas, slider-style flip-flops.

The man ran-off when someone knocked on the front door and was seen going in the direction of Fairfax Drive.

No items were reported stolen.

Police have now released the featured E-fit in a bid to locate the suspect.

"We believe that this individual targeted the property by mistake" said Investigating Officer DC Simon Laurie.

"While nothing was stolen and no injuries were reported, what happened was understandably traumatising for the victim.

"We would like to speak to anyone who thinks they know the identity of the man pictured.

"We are also keen to hear from any local residents who have doorbell cameras or witnessed any suspicious behaviour.

"Alternatively if you were driving in the area around the time and have dash cam footage, we would also like you to get in contact."
