A FOOTBALL writer visited a school to share tips and deliver workshops.

Matt Oldfield, author of the Ultimate Football Heroes books, came to visit Harwich and Dovercourt High School (HDHS) last Wednesday (January 29).

He delivered an assembly to Year Seven and Year Eight students and shared football stories, alongside writing workshops with smaller groups of students to help them develop their ideas and put their stories down on paper.

Ray Gallagher, head of the English and communication faculty, said: “The students thoroughly enjoyed the day.

“There was a real buzz around the school.

“Many of the students were eager to purchase his books, get their copies signed and get photographs taken with Matt.

“The students were excited to have Matt visit HDHS.”

Mr Gallagher continued saying it was a pleasure to have Matt visit their school.

“His books are very popular with our students and it is great to give our students the opportunity to meet an accomplished writer”, he said.

“It is always great to see and hear our students get excited about books.”
