FUN was the order of the day as a church opened its doors to bring joy to families.

Kingsland Church, in London Road, Colchester, held its free family community fun day.

More than 900 children and their parents visited the church for a free activity day.

The kids had fun, taking part in face painting, a bouncy castle, a sports cage, photo booth, an escape room, prize giving and much more.

Precious Bundles, the church’s kids clothing charity, was also doing a winter clothes giveaway and there were musical performances from the church’s gospel choir, various singers and children’s entertainers.

The families were also treated to a free lunch with the church’s café rushed off its feet serving up some of the kids’s favourites, like hot dogs.

Kingsland Pastor Neil Loxley said: “It was wonderful to see so many people having such a good time.

“The volunteers were amazing and the activities seemed to work really well. It’s part of who we are as a community church.

“I don’t like February, it’s often too dull and grey to be outside, no-one has any money so we saw an opportunity to put on something positive, inside, helpful and free.

“The people who came seemed to appreciate the event, we had lots of great feedback and apart from being a very tiring day, the volunteers enjoyed it too.”
